Recently engaged and wondering where to start with what seems like a huge task in front of you? Read on for my top tips on getting started with wedding planning.
One of the first things we did was to write our guest list. While you may be dreaming of trying on dresses and tasting cakes, for us it gave us a great idea of how many people we wanted to come, helped us to set the budget and think about the types of venues and type of wedding we wanted to have. We had about 120 on our first list so we had in mind between 100 and 120 people, which discounted a lot of smaller venues.
Next we did a bit of research around budget. It’s a really good idea to have an idea of how much you would like to spend, plus an absolute top budget. It can be so easy to completely overspend, so having an idea of budget from the very beginning helps to reign this in a little.
You may already have in mind the type of wedding you would like, or you may think that you have no idea at all. Think about the things that are the most important to you both by asking the following questions:
Formal or relaxed?
Traditional or alternative?
Big or small?
Time of year?
If you really have no idea, head over to Pinterest for serious wedding inspiration. This may either help by giving you some great ideas, or you will be completely overwhelmed by all the variety, so approach with caution.
