Honeymoon planning

My husband and I married in May last year and had a ‘minimoon’ straight after, spending a few days in the Channel Islands. We decided not to take our ‘proper honeymoon’ straight after the wedding for a few reasons. We were a bit limited to time off due to both mine and my husbands work, but also so much time and effort went in to planning the actual wedding that I didn’t want to rush planning the honeymoon.¬†

We didn’t fancy the idea of a long haul beach break. Destinations like the Maldives and the Caribbean are stunning and there are some great packages out there for honeymooners, but it just wasn’t what we had in mind. We have always been very do-it-yourself when it comes to our holidays, having driven the coastal highways of California and Florida on previous breaks, we wanted our honeymoon to be the same.

A honeymoon should be a reflection of you, the ideal getaway that is perfect for you as a couple. We knew we would need a few days to relax together after the build up of the wedding day, which is why we booked the minimoon, but decided to wait until our first anniversary for that extra special trip away.

It also means we have something this year to really look forward to, which is always nice! We’re currently in the middle of planning our Italian adventure. Our current itinerary is as follows:

Venice: 3 nights staying at the stunning, romantic PalazzinaG.

Florence: 1 night staying at the Hotel Sempione.

Tuscany: 4 nights in the Tuscan countryside at the incredibly romantic Poggio Piglia

Rome: 4 nights staying at the Frattina 57.

Sorrento: 3 nights staying at Capo La Gala

Naples: 3 nights – we still need to book this one!

Getting around will be a mix of trains and hiring cars. We hope to get off the beaten track a little, so we’ve downloaded a language learning app and we’re currently trying to learn a bit of Italian to get us by. This trip is very ‘us’ and I’m loving having something to plan. Last year was so exciting planning the wedding, this year all effort is going into the honeymoon!

Are you having your honeymoon straight after your wedding or are you waiting?
